CAS-BHACAIG, 194, a stumbling block, a tripping step. [Cp. A.D. 141].
Dwelly does have cas-bhacaig, but refers the reader to camachag. However, the definition for camachag is “small bay”, whereas the definition for camcag is “trip, sudden tripping of the heels.” Could this be a mistake?
However, it is in fact in Dwelly under bacag: “-aig, -an, sf Little hollow. 2 Trip, fall, stumble. Cuir cas bacaig air, trip him.”
This word was a last minute addition to the book because my children (in the picture) became so fond of it, using it all the time when we’re out for walks! Because its addition came after I visited South Uist and Eriskay with my voice recorder, the soundfile is a temporary cheat – it’s me saying the word instead of a native from the area.
